$3.5m Ferrari to sell in Monaco

One of the car sales of the year, the 1962 Pininfarina, will be at RM’s hotly-anticipated event
RM Auctions inaugural annual car sale in Monaco will have an Italian superstar at its helm: a rare Ferrari with an expected value of $3.5m.
Eighty of the world’s finest classic cars will be showcased at the Sporting Classics of Monaco auction, timed to coincide with the 7th Grand Prix Historique de Monaco.
But the lot likely to turn the most heads will be the 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet Pininfarina – regarded as more powerful and luxurious than the SWB California Spyder.
The elegant automobile is one of only six examples bodied by Pininfarina – and this model, chassis number 3309SA was the last-ever to be built.
Recently, the car underwent an extensive and pricey restoration, and won an award at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The auction will take place in May 2010. In May 2008 DJ Chris Evans set a record for a car sale at auction by buying a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder SWB for €7m, though this was later beaten in May 2009 the sale of another Ferrari – a Testa Rossa.Â
For car collectors around the world, the Pininfarina will be one of the auction highlights of the year.
