Providing Relief for Disaster Victims
A $75 Disaster Relief Kit purchase will provide one disaster victim with a cot, two blankets, personal necessities as well as three meals. While most people associate the Red Cross with international disasters, they also provide aid within our own communities when needed. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the American Red Cross gave emergency assistance to over 1.4 million families.
For American armed forces, the Red Cross offers a $20 phone card that enables active duty and wounded soldiers to stay in touch with loved ones. A $50 Patriot Comfort kit provides a robe, toiletry items and an iTunes gift card for arriving soldiers at military and VA hospitals.
Measles Prevention
The Red Cross has also created a Measles Initiative to help educate and prevent the spread of this disease that still kills an estimated 540 people each day, many of them children.
