Washington letter exceeds auction estimate

1787 Handwritten George Washington Letter
A four-page handwritten letter by George Washington recently sold at Christie’s New York for $3.2 million.
The letter was written in 1787, two years before Washington became President. It was written to his nephew and urges him to adopt the country’s new constitution.
The seller was a descendant of Bushrod Washington. The buyer was not identified.
The previous auction record for a George Washington letter was $834,500, set in 2002.
